Our Commitment

At SoCalGas, our commitment to provide customers with safe, reliable service goes beyond natural gas.
We are also dedicated to improving the quality of life in the communities we serve. We give our energy, time, financial support and focus our efforts in areas where we can make a difference.

2024 Corporate Giving Highlights

Encouraging Emergency Preparedness & Safety

Together with our partners, we are actively promoting community safety and emergency preparedness through various initiatives. These include the American Red Cross’s “Sound the Alarm” campaign, which installs free smoke alarms and provides safety education, and the Climate Resiliency Grants, which awarded $150,000 to support local adaptation planning. Additionally, SoCalGas continues to educate the public on natural gas safety, emergency readiness, and scam prevention through multilingual resources and outreach efforts.

American Red Cross – Sound the Alarm Lynwood/South Gate

Our dedicated volunteers installed free smoke alarms and provided essential safety education to residents, significantly enhancing home safety and saving lives. These events are a vital part of our commitment to community safety, ensuring that families are better prepared in case of emergencies.

Climate Resiliency Grants

We granted $150,000 in 2024 to local governments and vulnerable communities for Climate Adaptation and Resiliency Planning. Awardees included the City of Santa Ana, the City of Carson, and the City of Calipatria.

Stay Safe

While natural gas has the best safety and reliability record of all traditional energy sources, we still need to be vigilant about following our established safety guidelines and help share important up-to-date safety information.

Our safety page features various resources about safety practices, safe use of natural gas, and our commitment to operating our system safely.

Protecting & Preserving the Environment

As the nation’s largest natural gas utility, we gladly embrace the role and responsibility to implement sustainable practices and remain a sound environmental steward. We are proud to serve a region that places a high priority on environmental issues, with a wide array of organizations dedicated to important causes, such as urban greening, beach cleanups and clean air initiatives. Learn more about our involvement below.

Los Angeles Kings and Friends of the LA River (FoLAR)

In conjunction with the LA Kings and FoLAR, 18 SoCalGas volunteers helped restore native habitats in the Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve. The California Native Plant Society led volunteers in removing invasive plants along this area on the Upper Los Angeles River.

Los Angeles Angels and OC Conservation Corps

Team SoCalGas volunteers teamed up with the Los Angeles Angels and the OC Conservation Corps to plant 20 oak saplings at Oak Canyon Nature Center in Anaheim. The event aligned with National 811 Day, a reminder to call 811 before starting any digging projects. This collaborative effort beautified the area and supported the local ecosystem’s health and sustainability. Together, we’re making a positive environmental impact and promoting safety and community involvement.

Promoting STEM and Energy Education

A promising future for our communities is directly tied to a highly skilled and educated workforce. It is imperative that we give students a strong foundation to be equipped for the jobs of tomorrow. We focus our efforts on motivating students to be prepared for higher education, promoting technology-based learning and encouraging success in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Learn more about our involvement below.

USC Viterbi College of Engineering STEM Summer Camp

Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) are key disciplines to our corporate giving. In collaboration with USC’s Viterbi School of Engineering, we hosted the Energy of STEM Summer Camp—a free, week-long program for 3rd–12th grade students. Seventy SoCalGas employees facilitated classes for 100 students on topics like green energy, physics, electronics, coding, and forensics. Younger students explored hydraulic energy, gravity, and bioenergy, while older students focused on computer science.

Junior Achievement Finance Park Volunteer

Students explore financial literacy and energy efficiency through our storefront at Junior Achievement’s Finance Park, an interactive educational space that provides students with lessons on financial literacy. The storefront presents realistic scenarios that help students practice budgeting, managing expenses, and making informed financial decisions. It also highlights the role of energy use in financial planning, introducing students to energy-efficient practices and our customer assistance programs. Modeled after the [H2] Innovation Experience, the space prepares future leaders with insights into a decarbonized future.

Hydrogen Grand Prix

Horizon Educational hosted the Horizon Hydrogen Grand Prix (H2GP) World Final in partnership with RE+ at the annual RE+ Energy Conference in Anaheim. The event featured 40 top student-led teams, selected from a program that now includes over 4,000 students across hundreds of schools. We sponsored and mentored an all-girls team from the S.T.E.M. Academy of Boyle Heights, which won 1st place in their division. By supporting programs that empower underrepresented groups in STEM, we are helping build a talent pipeline ready to tackle future energy challenges.

Supporting Active Military & Veterans, and Homelessness

We proudly support veterans through hiring, outreach, and training, with veterans making up about 5% of our workforce. We also invest in solutions to homelessness by volunteering and supporting events that provide housing, meals, and essential services.

Our Veteran Workforce

For years, have been a proud supporter of our veteran community. We continue to be committed to hiring and retaining military veterans, veterans with disabilities and active military personnel. We support our uniformed services employees with a variety of resources and career guidance when they return to work after active duty. For more information, see our careers section.
