City of El Monte Transportation Services
The City of El Monte's Transportation Services Division manages a variety of public transportation programs that serve the city's residents and visitors. This includes operating five El Monte transit routes and providing transportation for youth, seniors, and disabled resident programs, among other services. The division also coordinates with regional transit providers and maintains the city's transportation fleet.El Monte has pledged to utilize cleaner energy options, including by making its transportation fleet cleaner. The city currently operates a compressed natural gas (CNG) station and has also decided to build a new renewable compressed natural gas (RCNG) station. To help with costs for the station, the city applied for a Carl Moyer Program grant offered through the South Coast Air Quality Management District and received notification of award approval in 2021. SoCalGas provided guidance throughout the application process. The new RCNG station will be conveniently located at the city's Public Works Yard. Not only will it fuel over 20 city transit buses, but it will also be accessible to the public so that other CNG vehicles can also fuel there. By utilizing RCNG, El Monte is eligible to receive credits and incentives, which it can use to support the local community.El Monte hopes to promote RCNG's use to others and demonstrate that it can be an effective energy option in the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
