Fostering Economic Prosperity

Some organizations and projects we supported in 2024:
In 2024, SoCalGas invested more than $350,000 in workforce development training and apprenticeship programs to help youth, veterans, and women build customer service and technical skills to prepare for the jobs of the future. One initiative supported through this program is the Women in Non-Traditional Employment Roles’ (WINTER’s) Women in Construction program. The program’s mission is to train, educate, and prepare women for transformative careers in the construction industry. WINTER actively recruits women from diverse backgrounds, including those who are low-income, justice-involved, survivors of domestic violence, transitioning from the foster care system, and transgender individuals. Grants provided by SoCalGas help to supply weekly stipends and training materials for cohort participants. Future aspirations for collaboration with the program include the integration of SoCalGas trainings and the development of SoCalGas-specific curriculum to develop a pipeline for career opportunities.
Southern California Grantmakers Annual Conference – Workforce Panel
SoCalGas hosted a dynamic panel discussion at the Southern California Grantmakers Annual Conference, centered on the theme "Creating Sustainable Pipelines to Employment." This insightful session brought together esteemed guest panelists from the nonprofit and corporate sectors to share their perspectives on how funders can collaborate to empower underserved communities, ensuring they have a competitive edge in both the current and future workforce.
The discussion delved into the importance of innovative partnerships between corporate, nonprofit, and government sectors. These collaborations are crucial in creating sustainable employment pipelines that support families and communities, ultimately helping to break the cycles of generational poverty. The event underscored SoCalGas's commitment to fostering meaningful dialogue and action towards building a more inclusive and equitable workforce. We are excited to continue working with our partners to drive positive change and create lasting impact.
