Community Commitment

Being part of the Ventura community is something SoCalGas takes pride in, and we strive to be a good neighbor. As we continue delivering natural gas in a safe, reliable, and affordable manner, we remain committed to transparency with the community regarding the operation of our Ventura Compressor Station and the proposed Modernization Project.

The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) announced the Notice of Preparation (NOP) of an Environmental Impact Report (EIR) and notice of public scoping meeting for the Ventura Compressor Modernization Project (Proposed Project). The purpose of the NOP is to inform other agencies, as well as the public, that an EIR is required for the Proposed Project. SoCalGas is fully prepared to provide support and assistance to the CPUC as they fulfill their obligations under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). Additionally, SoCalGas encourages the community to stay engaged, attend the public scoping meeting and provide feedback to the CPUC.

The CPUC’s website for the environmental review of the Proposed Project can be accessed here.

The CPUC Energy Division, CEQA, and Energy Permitting Section notified SoCalGas that it has completed its completeness review of SoCalGas' Proponent’s Environmental Assessment (PEA) and application for a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (CPCN) for the Ventura Compressor Station Modernization Project. The CPUC Energy Division found that the PEA contained sufficient information to satisfy the requirements of the CPUC’s Guidelines for Energy Project Applications Requiring CEQA Compliance: Pre-filing and Proponent’s Environmental Assessment and deemed the application complete. This milestone advances the Proposed Project to the next phase of the environmental review process.

August 24, 2023

SoCalGas filed an Application for a Certificate for Public Convenience and Necessity (Application), including a PEA prepared pursuant to CPUC General Order 177 for the proposed Ventura Compressor Station Modernization Project. The project proposed in the Application incorporates feedback received from the community since 2021.

Feasibility Study

We appreciate the thoughtful community comments that we received during our workshops and town hall meetings in 2022. We incorporated your feedback into our feasibility study of site location and equipment configuration alternatives. Our Modernization Project will now include two electric compressors and two natural gas compressors, compared to the originally planned project of four natural gas compressors. The community's feedback, as well as the feasibility study with proposed Alternative Sites, was included in our CPCN application.
